What began as a simple idea in #Ukrainespace has now become a place full of light, color and security: A Snoezelen room in the youth therapy center in Ternopil (Ukraine), which offers children with special needs a safe retreat.
The original idea was to procure a mobile Snoezelen trolley - a flexible, sensory offer for relaxation and support that can be used wherever it is needed. However, over time, the exchange in #Ukrainespace, feedback from professionals in the care and social sector and many practical considerations, the idea matured into something bigger: Instead of a trolley, a complete space was to be created - permanent, sustainable, professionally equipped.
Many voices - one goal
Over the course of the year, we have received a lot of feedback from people who work with children on a daily basis: Carers, therapists, educators. Their perspectives and advice had a decisive influence on the project. Their experiences made it clear how great the need is for a place that provides safety, relaxation and stimulus regulation - especially for children with anxiety, hyperactivity or developmental delays.
Transport #3 brings relaxation to Ternopil
In April, the time had finally come: With our third aid transport, we were able to bring most of the equipment to TernopilThe local organisation ‘Країна здоров'я’ and our local partners were committed to setting up and furnishing the center. Together with the Тернопільський навчально-реабілітаційний центр (the regional education and rehabilitation centre) turned an empty room into a lovingly designed sensory room.
Opening at the beginning of May
The new Snoezelen room was officially opened at the beginning of May - an emotional moment for everyone involved. The press release from our partner organisation ‘Країна здоров'я’ states:
‘Another completed project! Thanks to the collaboration with LiftUkraine e.V., a zone of peace, relaxation and sensory experience has been created - equipped with light shows, a soap bubble column, fibre optics, hammocks, tactile play materials, poufs and much more. An empty space became a real place of relaxation.’
Made possible together
This project shows: What started with an idea can become something big through collaboration, dialogue and commitment. We would like to thank all our supporters - in Germany, in Ukraine, in the care and therapy sector - for their trust and their contributions.
The Snoezelen room in Ternopil is more than just the end of a project. It is a beginning. A place where children can come to rest - and recharge their batteries.
